HOW TO USE SAFE MODE ON WINDOWS XP

To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps:

• Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard.
• Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
• Use the arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and then press ENTER.

To search for a file or folder:

1. Click Start, and then click Search.
2. In the Search Companion dialog box, click All files and folders.
3. Type part or all of the name of the file or folder, or type a word or phrase that is in the file.
4. In the Look in box, click the drive or drives, folder, or network location that you want to search.
5. Choose one of the following options: ( If you wish )
   1. Click When was it modified to look for files that were created or modified on or between specific dates.
   2. Click What size is it to look for files that are specific size.
   3. Click More advanced options to specify additional search criteria.
6. Click Search.

The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, preferences of the PC, etc.

How to make changes to the Windows Registry.

Note : You should make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat) before you edit the registry.

Back up by Exporting a Portion of the Registry

Click the Start button, click Run, and type REGEDIT. Click OK. 

1. In the Registry Editor, select the key you want to back up.
2. From the Registry menu, choose Export Registry File. 
3. In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the backup. 
4. In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as “Options” or “Backup.” 
5. In the Export Range box, be sure that “Selected branch” is selected. 
6. Click Save. The file is saved with a  .reg  extension.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. We cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

How to open Registry Editor ?

• Click Start, and then click on Run.
• Type “regedit“, then click on OK.
• This will open the Registry Editor.
• just Press “Ctrl + F” to locate the key that contain the value you want to delete or modify.

A task manager is a program used to provide information about the processes and programs running on a computer, as well as the general status of the computer. It can also be used to terminate processes and programs, as well as change the processes’ priority.

The Processes tab is very useful as it tells us what .exe’s are running on your computer and how much memory they are consuming!

How to open Task Manager ?

There are many ways to do this:

1. Right-click on an empty area of Task Bar and choose Task Manager.
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and choose Task Manager from the dialog.
3. Press Shift + Ctrl + Escape.
4. From the Start – Run dialog , type ‘taskman’ and run it.
   

For example, if you want to remove “explorer.exe” then go to prcesses, select the file and then Kill explorer.exe processes. Same for the other processes. See the screen shot.

Note : Explorer.exe is the Windows Program Manager (or Windows Explorer.) It manages the Windows Graphical Shell including the Start menu, taskbar, desktop, and File Manager. By removing this process the graphical interface for Windows will disappear. And by restarting this process the graphical interface for Windows will reappear.
